Oh hello there, I’m Eriks and I like making things. Sooner or later that resulted in a design career, later that brought me together with some startup folk & finally here we are - birth of remote agency ThirtySquare.
Guess here’s a good point to elaborate on the remote part. Short answer - it’s 2022. Many have discovered the advantages of new ways of working. Probably, no other industry has been affected more than all the startup creative & IT folk. Sure opinions differ, but if the endless LinkedIn emoji surveys can be used as some data, I’d say that most still sway towards hybrid work at the very minimum. If you prefer your data emoji-free, maybe Airbnb’s new work and live anywhere policy can lend some more heft to the argument. Futurists can even entertain the idea of a meta-office fully kitted with part-digital staff some years down the line.
Some appreciate the time savings, some can focus better, others value location independence. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that a large swath of creatives are moving to self-employed or making their small companies. The creator economy is here to stay.
Still we can’t one-man-band everything. Pretty soon banding up for larger projects becomes the logical way to unlock more. More complex and impressive projects, more contacts, more learning, more meaningful growth. Thirtysquare aims to make permanent remote teams in three areas of growth: Brand & Product, Advertising & Web3 Lab. We will focus on what it means to build international teams and take care to allow for a sense of colleagues in a remote world - we are firm believers that it’s ongoing collaboration that boosts maximum creativity. By keeping the teams specialised & focused on the growth timeline we will also plan for expanding skills and combining them to make outstanding experiences from a tight-knit lean team.
It's my firm belief that most of us don't need mentors - we need a study group. To be truly creative, you have to be okay with looking like a fool every now and then. That will only happen in a group you can trust. Constructive feedback from other peers speaking the same language can also be an issue over time, since most early startups usually have one designer in house.
There's also just purely economical strength in numbers. Worthwhile technical design or development course prices, conferences, assets, licenses, SAAS products etc. can get pricey. Most of this stuff is still priced for enterprise, digital nomad folk not so much. I could go on. We will continuously look for opportunities that uniting in a group allow in terms of slimming operation costs for each of us individually & as a team.
